On a track cut into a quarry just beyond the edge of San Diego’s suburban sprawl, Jeremy McGrath is putting the pedal down on his second career, sliding wildly through turns and flying over jumps. He did it so well on a motorcycle in the 1990s and now he’s doing it in a souped-up truck as a rookie in Championship Off Road Racing.

ALMS fueler transferred to Indy burn center (AP)

A fueler for De Ferran Motorsports was transferred to a burn center Tuesday and his condition was upgraded from critical to serious. Keith Jones was injured in a pit fire during the American Le Mans Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday, just the second event for the newly formed team headed by former Indianapolis 500 winner Gil de Ferran.

Kevin Harvick wins Maine’s TD Banknorth 250 (AP)

NASCAR’s Kevin Harvick stayed an extra day and then raced to victory in the rain-delayed TD Banknorth 250 on Monday night. Harvick built a comfortable lead before turning back a late challenge by Glen Luce of Turner as he upstaged the field of local and regional drivers at Oxford Plains Speedway. Heavy rain on Sunday postponed the race for only the third time in 35-year history of the race.

Rain postpones TD Banknorth 250 until Monday (AP)

The TD Banknorth 250 featuring NASCAR’s Kevin Harvick against a field of top local and regional drivers was postponed Sunday because of rain. Race officials said qualifying heats would resume Monday afternoon, weather permitting. Rain remained in the forecast and there was a flash flood watch in effect through Monday evening.

Italy’s Rossi wins US Grand Prix (AP)

Valentino Rossi won the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, giving the Italian rider his first victory at Laguna Seca. Rossi’s 66th career victory stopped defending world champion Casey Stoner’s winning streak at three races. Rossi finished the 32-lap race in 44 minutes, 4.311 seconds with a top speed of 97.72 mph to set an event record.
